Economic Survey of Korea to be published on Wednesday 17 December 2008

OECD’s latest economic survey of Korea assesses the difficulties posed by the financial crisis, higher inflation and the slowdown in world trade. It also looks at the reforms needed in areas such as tax, the service sector and education to sustain economic growth over the medium term.  A media briefing on the survey will be presented by Randall Jones, senior economist at OECD, at 11.00 on Wednesday 17 December at OECD’s Conference Centre in Paris.

OECD’s latest survey of the United States, to be published on Tuesday 9 December 2008, assesses the challenges facing the new administration amid a severe economic downturn. They include tackling the financial crisis and achieving universal healthcare. 

Prospects for future access to higher education – the horizon to 2030

Higher education in OECD countries faces new challenges, from gender imbalances and social inequity to demographic changes resulting from migration. These challenges, as well as how to foster quality access to higher education in the future, will be discussed at the Higher Education to 2030 Conference on 8-9 December in Paris.

OECD’s latest economic survey of Sweden, to be published on Wednesday 3 December 2008, assesses the challenges posed by the global downturn and looks at reform priorities in areas such as tax, education and youth employment. A seminar on the survey, open to the press, and chaired by Swedish finance minister Anders Borg will take place the same day in Stockholm.

OECD to release Economic Outlook Tuesday 25 November 2008

OECD’s Economic Outlook containing analysis and projections for all OECD countries and other major world economies will be published on Tuesday 25 November 2008. Klaus Schmidt-Hebbel, OECD’s Chief Economist, will present the Economic Outlook at a news conference at 11.00 a.m. at OECD headquarters. The news conference will also be broadcast live on OECD's website.

OECD to release forecasts for US, Japan, Euro area ahead of full Economic Outlook

OECD will release its latest GDP and inflation projections for the Euro area, Japan and the United States at 11.00 a.m. Paris time (10.00 GMT) on Thursday 13 November 2008. The complete Economic Outlook will be presented on 25 November 2008.

OECD Revenue Statistics 2008 / briefing on tax policy – 11.00 a.m., Wednesday 15 October 2008

On October 15, OECD will publish the 2008 edition of its annual Revenue Statistics, which presents detailed comparable tax data in a common format for all OECD countries from 1965 onwards. The publication will be available to journalists under embargo on the OECD’s password-protected website from Tuesday 14 October, for automatic release at 11.00 a.m. Paris time on Wednesday 15 October.

OECD Secretary-General presents review of Hungary’s environment policies

In the lead-up to joining the European Union, Hungary made significant progress in reducing air and water pollution and protecting its nature and biodiversity. OECD’s latest Review of the Environmental Performance of Hungary recommends that it redouble its efforts, in order to further reduce pollution and use energy and raw materials more efficiently.

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
