Results of the Forum on Space Economics' Third Steering Group Meeting, 25-26 Sept. 2008
06-Nov-2008
The third meeting of the Space Forum's Steering Group was held in Paris on 25-26 Sept. 2008. After taking stock of the major outputs resulting from the Forum three years' existence (2006-2008), the members stated their continuing strategic interest. The Forum should therefore continue its activities in 2009 for a one-year transition period. It could then potentially evolve into an upgraded institutional format, subject to political support in supporting Member States and agencies. The management of the world’s water resources is set to become one of the most important issues of the 21st century. In that context, a case study is being conducted within the framework of the OECD Forum on Space Economics. The objective is to explore the general capabilities of space technology to enhance water resource management, and see what space systems have generated so far in terms of socio-economic benefits and added-value in water management. The preliminary findings presented here are mainly based on existing literature and meetings with practitioners.
