Expert Consultations on forthcoming OECD-DAC report on "Armed Violence Reduction and Prevention"

On 4 and 5 September 2008, international expert consultations on the forthcoming OECD-DAC report on “Armed violence and conflict prevention” took place at the OECD in Paris. The report, which is expected to be released at the end of 2008, aims to highlight the interaction between armed violence and development, as well as to identify potential fields of action for AVR programming. In order to do so, it applies the “Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) Lens”.

The experts present at the meeting, from various agencies, multilateral organisations and civil society, emphasised the importance of a multidisciplinary bottom-up approach when analysing armed violence. By this, the concept of the AVR Lens goes beyond classical conflict analysis and takes into account the nexus between crime and conflict.
