Competition between the three Fs (food, feed and fuel) is expected to intensify

 

Although it almost quadruples during the projection period, wheat use as a feedstock for biofuels production represents a small share of wheat utilisation and wheat will remain predominantly a food commodity.

 

Growth in coarse grains use will be mainly sustained by its utilisation in ethanol production but feed use remains the principal outlet for coarse grains producers. The share of vegetable oil consumption which is used for biodiesel production is expected to increase from 9% in 2006-08 to 20% in 2018.
