Guidelines for the Supervisory Assessment of Pension Funds

The International Organisation of Pensions Supervisors (IOPS) approved the draft guidelines at the 2008 AGM. The Guidelines are developed to provide pension supervisors with general supervisory approaches for the conduct of the supervisory process. It should be noted that the focus of these guidelines is mainly prudential supervision.

IOPS Appoints a new Vice President and Technical Committee Chairperson

At the Occasion of the 2008 AGM the IOPS appointed Solange Berstein, Superintendent of Pension Funds in Chile, as Chair of the Organisation’s Technical Committee. Mr. Edward Odundo, Chief Executive of the Retirement Benefits Authority in Kenya will replace Ms. Berstein Vice President of the Organisation.
Mr. Will Price, from the UK’s Pensions Regulator was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee.
Representative authorities from Hungary, the Netherlands, South Africa and the United Kingdom were also elected at the AGM to serve on the IOPS Executive Committee.

The OECD/IOPS Global Forum on Private Pensions took place on 30-31 October 2008 in Mombasa, Kenya. The Global Forum was organised back to back with the IOPS Technical and Executive Committee meetings on 29 October 2008 and the  IOPS Annual General Meeting on 30 October 2008.

IOPS releases new Working Papers in the Effective Pension Supervision series

The IOPS has released a further 4 reports as part of its Working Paper series, which provide important additions to the study of pension supervisory practices worldwide.
IOPS welcomes the publication of the reports, noting that they have been drafted by a number of  IOPS members  - including from Chile, Hong Kong, Italy and the United Kingdom – providing a wide range of international experience.
